If your child has autism or is displaying signs of autism, you’ve likely heard about Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy.
Maybe you heard about it on social media, a friend or a healthcare professional.
ABA Kids Academy™ team is here to help!
What is ABA Therapy?
ABA therapy is an evidence-based approach designed to teach socially significant behaviors such as communication and language, social skills, cognitive skills, and adaptive behaviors in children and adults with autism and other developmental challenges. In addition, it has been proven to improve attention and focus, coping strategies, emotion regulation and executive functioning skills as well as teach children effective strategies that replace challenging behaviors that interfere with learning and interacting with their peers and others around them.
Behavior analysis is simply the scientific study of human behavior. It focuses on understanding how our behaviors are influenced by environmental factors and how we can modify these factors to develop the most effective teaching strategies through positive reinforcement, shaping, prompting and other proven techniques. ABA relies on data collection and analysis to evaluate each child’s progress and guides us how to adjust interventions.
ABA therapy is highly personalized, targeting specific behaviors and tailoring interventions to meet the unique needs of each child.
How does ABA teach new skills?
ABA therapy teaches a child new skills by breaking down activities into smaller pieces and providing many learning opportunities to master larger goals. Our clinical team strives to create hundreds of positive learning opportunities for your child each day, using praise and positive reinforcement of new skills so they experience that learning can be fun. It may take a little longer for children with autism to learn certain tasks that come naturally to others, often because their brains process information in a unique way. Our goal is to make sure that children the skills and behavior they need to live as independently as possible and to be able to do what makes them happy in life.
At ABA Kids Learning Center, compassionate care is at the heart of our clinical approach. To reinforce this commitment, we stay true to our core values, placing a strong emphasis on the Happy, Relaxed, Engaged (HRE) approach. We always try to create an environment where children feel safe, comfortable and ready to learn. We provide encouragement while also acknowledging any challenges they may be facing.
